Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) 2-Day Intensive (St Louis, MO)

August 24, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Hosted by Gateway Wellness Associates

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based “third wave” behavioral treatment for depression, anxiety, substance abuse, stress, and numerous other psychological problems. To date it is supported by almost 200 clinical trials (and growing rapidly). ACT teaches people to stop fighting with their difficult thoughts, feelings, sensations, and memories. Instead, they learn to accept them as natural phenomenon, build mindfulness skills, identify core personal values, and commit to behaviors that are consistent with those values.

In addition to 14 CEUs, participants in this workshop will learn about the model of psychological flexibility, upon which ACT is based, and engage in skill development in the implementation of ACT.

At the end of this training, participants will be ready to begin using ACT in their own therapeutic practice, including being able to:

– Identify the six domains of human suffering and psychological flexibility
– Conceptualize behavior problems as dimensions of experiential avoidance, disconnection from valued behaviors, and lack of present-moment awareness
– Explain how ACT is used to treat numerous mental health concerns
– Conduct ACT consistent mindfulness interventions
– Assist clients in increasing their acceptance of difficult thoughts and feelings
– Conduct values-based behavior change strategies
